China S Pan Pearl River Delta

Book by Anthony G. O. Yeh, China S Pan Pearl River Delta Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download China S Pan Pearl River Delta books, Cities and regions in Asia are facing problems that cannot be adequately managed by traditional urban planning. Competition and local protectionism have often hindered infrastructural development and regional integration. In southern China, an area embracing one-fifth of China and one-third of its population, the economies and societies of nine provinces, together with Hong Kong and Macao, face many barriers to regional collaboration. Fiscal regulatory conflicts, land and housing reform, and bottlenecks in immigration and transport have stymied efforts to develop infrastructure that could spur economic growth and greater prosperity for the entire region. This book examines regional integration and its barriers in southern China in a comparative framework using perspectives on development and globalization from Europe and North America. With its contributions from leading researchers and practitioners in the field, the book will appeal to students, academics and policymakers interested in urban and regional planning, geography, sociology, public administration and development studies. Anthony G.O. Yehis chair professor and head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, and director of the Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning, the University of Hong Kong.Jiang Xuis assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. "A timely and much-needed volume on a region of growing importance. Supported by helpful maps and charts, this collection discusses the theory, challenges, and practice of development in an area comprising nearly a third of China's population. The comparative framework, drawing on experiences from Europe and the United States, is particularly valuable." -- Linda McCarthy, co-author ofUrbanization: An Introduction to Urban Geography

Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta

Book by Jana Schebera, Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta books, Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it goes a famous saying by Confucius. My wish in writing this paper is to convince readers of the peculiar beauty and importance of the highly dynamic aviation landscape of the southern Chinese Pearl River Delta. Airfreight is an essential and highly sophisticated part of an economy s logistics infrastructure. A functioning infrastructure is vital for the development of an economy, in particular for its international trade. As trade is a key component in China s economic success formula, demand for an efficient infrastructure is high. Air transportation has become one of the most effective tools to explore and serve world markets. In today s highly competitive business world, just-in-time delivery and good customer service are absolutely crucial. The overall trend towards fast reliable delivery and the transformation of China s economy along with the value chain of production, have boosted demand for air transportation. Due to these developments, the air cargo market, which is still at low levels particularly in domestic transportation, is one of the fastest growing markets in China. The regional focus of this study is on the economic powerhouse of China, the Pearl River Delta (PRD) located in the southern province of Guangdong. Everyone who knows the highly industrialised landscape of the PRD would probably agree, that the region s nickname factory of the world is more than appropriate. The PRD has the highest per capita output in China and generates about one third of national exports. The Greater Pearl River Delta (GPRD) consists of the PRD and the Special Administrative Zones Hong Kong and Macao. In many respects, it is one of the most interesting economic entities of the world. Economy and infrastructure are integrated on a very high level. The GPRD features many extremes: its strong economic power, its rapid growth that has been the highest in China for many years, its population density and last but not least, its aviation landscape. Within radial distance of about 100 km, five international airports are at service, creating the highest airport density in the world. Three of these airports are among China s top five airports. The clear leader among them is Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which has established itself as a major hub in Asia and has been the airport with the highest international air cargo throughput of the world for many years. Its dominant [...]

A Comparative Geography Of China And The U S

Book by Rudi Hartmann, A Comparative Geography Of China And The U S Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Comparative Geography Of China And The U S books, The book is the outcome of a unique venture: a team of Chinese geographers and a team of American geographers collaborated on a new Comparative Geography of China and the United States. The book meets a high demand for comparative information about China and the United States, as the home of the two leading economies in a globalizing world. Comparisons of the two countries include the similarities and differences in their physical environments and natural hazards, the growth and changing spatial distribution of population and ethnic groups in China and the U.S., traditions and contemporary regional expressions of agriculture and food production as well as the rapidly changing urban and industrial patterns in both countries. The book also highlights the two countries’ interconnectedness, in trade and in the exchange of cultural, social, scientific & technological information. The volume serves as a major resource in geographic education as it contributes to a better and more comprehensive understanding of the formation and development of the two countries’ basic geographical patterns and processes.
