China S Pan Pearl River Delta

Book by Anthony G. O. Yeh, China S Pan Pearl River Delta Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download China S Pan Pearl River Delta books, Cities and regions in Asia are facing problems that cannot be adequately managed by traditional urban planning. Competition and local protectionism have often hindered infrastructural development and regional integration. In southern China, an area embracing one-fifth of China and one-third of its population, the economies and societies of nine provinces, together with Hong Kong and Macao, face many barriers to regional collaboration. Fiscal regulatory conflicts, land and housing reform, and bottlenecks in immigration and transport have stymied efforts to develop infrastructure that could spur economic growth and greater prosperity for the entire region. This book examines regional integration and its barriers in southern China in a comparative framework using perspectives on development and globalization from Europe and North America. With its contributions from leading researchers and practitioners in the field, the book will appeal to students, academics and policymakers interested in urban and regional planning, geography, sociology, public administration and development studies. Anthony G.O. Yehis chair professor and head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, and director of the Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning, the University of Hong Kong.Jiang Xuis assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. "A timely and much-needed volume on a region of growing importance. Supported by helpful maps and charts, this collection discusses the theory, challenges, and practice of development in an area comprising nearly a third of China's population. The comparative framework, drawing on experiences from Europe and the United States, is particularly valuable." -- Linda McCarthy, co-author ofUrbanization: An Introduction to Urban Geography

Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta

Book by Jana Schebera, Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Development Of Airfreight Hubs In The Greater Pearl River Delta books, Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it goes a famous saying by Confucius. My wish in writing this paper is to convince readers of the peculiar beauty and importance of the highly dynamic aviation landscape of the southern Chinese Pearl River Delta. Airfreight is an essential and highly sophisticated part of an economy s logistics infrastructure. A functioning infrastructure is vital for the development of an economy, in particular for its international trade. As trade is a key component in China s economic success formula, demand for an efficient infrastructure is high. Air transportation has become one of the most effective tools to explore and serve world markets. In today s highly competitive business world, just-in-time delivery and good customer service are absolutely crucial. The overall trend towards fast reliable delivery and the transformation of China s economy along with the value chain of production, have boosted demand for air transportation. Due to these developments, the air cargo market, which is still at low levels particularly in domestic transportation, is one of the fastest growing markets in China. The regional focus of this study is on the economic powerhouse of China, the Pearl River Delta (PRD) located in the southern province of Guangdong. Everyone who knows the highly industrialised landscape of the PRD would probably agree, that the region s nickname factory of the world is more than appropriate. The PRD has the highest per capita output in China and generates about one third of national exports. The Greater Pearl River Delta (GPRD) consists of the PRD and the Special Administrative Zones Hong Kong and Macao. In many respects, it is one of the most interesting economic entities of the world. Economy and infrastructure are integrated on a very high level. The GPRD features many extremes: its strong economic power, its rapid growth that has been the highest in China for many years, its population density and last but not least, its aviation landscape. Within radial distance of about 100 km, five international airports are at service, creating the highest airport density in the world. Three of these airports are among China s top five airports. The clear leader among them is Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which has established itself as a major hub in Asia and has been the airport with the highest international air cargo throughput of the world for many years. Its dominant [...]

Hainan State Society And Business In A Chinese Province

Book by Associate Professor Department of Asian Studies Kjeld Erik Brodsgaard, Hainan State Society And Business In A Chinese Province Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Hainan State Society And Business In A Chinese Province books, This book examines the complex relationship between the state, society and business in China, focusing on the experience of the island province of Hainan. This island, for many years a provincial backwater, was given provincial rank in 1988 and became the testing ground for experiments of an economic, political, and social nature that have received great attention from Beijing, in particular the "small government, big society" project. This book provides a full account of this transition, showing how Hainan casts important light on a number of highly topical issues in contemporary China studies: central-local relations, institutional reform, state-society relations, and economic development strategies. It provides detailed evidence of how relations between party cadres, state bureaucrats, businesses, foreign investors and civil society play out in practice in China today. It argues that despite the liberalization of recent years, especially in the economic sphere, the party state remains the most powerful actor in Chinese society, and that path-breaking reform experiments such as in Hainan remain highly vulnerable due to the central government’s hesitation to commit the resources and unequivocal political support needed for the experiments to be successfully realized.
