The Man Who Never Returned

Book by Peter Quinn, The Man Who Never Returned Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Man Who Never Returned books, “A dazzling story by a fine writer. Fintan Dunne is a memorable hero who you want to meet again and again” (James Patterson). Judge Joe Crater’s disappearance in 1930 spawned countless conspiracy theories and captured the imagination of a nation caught in the grip of The Depression. Twenty-five years later, Fintan Dunne, the detective encountered in Quinn’s novel Hour of the Cat, recently retired and bored, answers a summons to New York where he is asked to solve the old case for a newspaper magnate only interested in making a profit from the story. Peter Quinn once again has written a compelling blend of history and fiction that is simply unputdownable. “In The Man Who Never Returned, Peter Quinn shapes a tantalizing tale around the enduring mystery of Judge Joseph Force Crater, whose disappearance remains a major mystery . . . This is noir fiction at its finest.” —William Kennedy, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Ironweed “A masterful and evocative tale, set in a beautifully rendered 1950s New York, it combines true crime with vivid imagining. This is that rare book: A first-rate thriller that seamlessly weaves together page-turning narrative with richly detailed characters whose motivations—complex, suspect, hidden—always ring true.” —Thomas Kelly, author of A Testament of Devotion “Peter Quinn brings wit, panache and a deep knowledge of the Big Apple to his latest Fintan Dunne novel . . . A taut thriller.” —T. J. English, New York Times–bestselling author of Whitey’s Payback “An utterly compelling story . . . Gripping from the first page to the last, Peter Quinn creates a unique and utterly believable world, part history, part fiction.” —Gabriel Byrne, Golden Globe Award–winning actor

The goal is to create a book for all ages to reference whether they’ve been to Boston once, lived here their whole life, or just plan to visit one day. Boston has a lot of universal references throughout pop culture and this book will be the go-to resource for people to learn more, get a laugh, and understand the people of Boston. We are working out the organization, but it will be broken into categories For example, the weather pages would begin with a few pages with some fun facts about the weather in Boston, some general weather humor info and then it will go into different anecdotes and slang explanations related to the the weather. Ex. Muggie, Scortcha, Wintah, Wicked Humid, etc… Each anecdote page will be then be accompanied by some fun facts related to the slang term. Scortcha: Anytime the weather in Boston is over 90 degrees, you will hear someone say "It's a Scortcha out there.” This is what we call hazy, hot, & humid! On a scortcha of a day a typical Bostonian would visit Dunks for an "Iced" an extra time or two, anyone with a pool will be getting a message asking "What are you doing today", and social media will be full of photos showing temperature gauges inside cars (unless you drive a "beater", they don't usually have temperature gauges). Even if we suffered a tough winter Bostonians will be complaining about the heat. In fact most conversations in Boston are weather related.........................more (Page will have accompanying art, maybe a funny caricature of someone sweating in the heat or in a float in a pool, and will have some related facts about Boston weather.. maybe avg. temperatures during summer months) SAMPLE ENTRIES Weather Concepts Scortcha Wintah Muggie Food & Drink Concepts Dunks Frappe Tonic "Swigga Tonic" Badaydas (Potatoes) Transportation Concepts Bang A Uey Beater Statie Breakdown Lane Other Concepts, To Be Categorized: Sneakahs Hawahya? Close Quarters

Book by Larry Heinemann, Close Quarters Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Close Quarters books, From the moment his first novel was published, Larry Heinemann joined the ranks of the great chroniclers of the Vietnam conflict--Philip Caputo, Tim O’Brien, and Gustav Hasford. In the stripped-down, unsullied patois of an ordinary soldier, draftee Philip Dosier tells the story of his war. Straight from high school, too young to vote or buy himself a drink, he enters a world of mud and heat, blood and body counts, ambushes and firefights. It is here that he embarks on the brutal downward path to wisdom that awaits every soldier. In the tradition of Naked and the Dead and The Thin Red Line, Close Quarters is the harrowing story of how a decent kid from Chicago endures an extraordinary trial-- and returns profoundly altered to a world on the threshold of change.

By The Irrigation Canals Of Babylon

Book by John J. Ahn, By The Irrigation Canals Of Babylon Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download By The Irrigation Canals Of Babylon books, This work assembles some of the finest scholars who have contributed to study and examination of the impact of the exile in biblical literature. Past, present, and future scholars examining the 6th century B.C.E. through historical and archeological (including paleoclimatology), literary, and the social sciences have been assembled. Approximately twelve papers from among the twenty papers presented over the four sessions (parallel to a sizable conference on the exile) will be represented in this volume. The book will be organized in a traditional history of scholarship manner, i.e., moving from historical to sociological. It should be noted that within each subcategory, there is a forward progressive movement from a traditional starting point (Klein, Olson, Wilson) ending at the progressive or cutting edge (Beck, Ahn). Jill Middlemas will open the volume with and introductory essay. John Ahn will close off the volume by pointing to the field of "forced migration studies" as a way to help better define and demarcate the import of 597, 587, and 582.
