Preaching About Racism

Book by Carolyn B. Helsel, Preaching About Racism Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Preaching About Racism books, Equipping pastors to address racism faithfully from the pulpit. Of all the activities that come with being a minister, sermon preparation can loom largest - especially when racism is the subject. You've got to address racism with your white congregation from the pulpit. But, truthfully, you can't wrap your head around how to preach about this topic thoughtfully and sensitively. In Preaching about Racism, preaching professor and pastor Carolyn Helsel speaks directly to other faith leaders about how to address racism from the pulpit. In her first book, Anxious to Talk about It: Helping White Christians Talk Faithfully about Racism, Helsel addressed the anxiety white Christians experience around conversations about race. In this follow-up, Helsel provides strategies and a theoretical framework for crafting biblical and theological sermons that incorporate insights from social sciences and psychology, gleaned from more than a decade of writing and teaching about racism. Written for the busy pastor, several chapters are quick reads - helpful reminders as you prepare a thoughtful and sensitive sermon - while others dig deeper on the theory behind the crucial work of dismantling racism.

The Dialectical Self

Book by Jamie Aroosi, The Dialectical Self Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Dialectical Self books, Although Karl Marx and Søren Kierkegaard are both major figures in nineteenth-century Western thought, they are rarely considered in the same conversation. Marx is the great radical economic theorist, the prophet of communist revolution who famously claimed religion was the "opiate of the masses." Kierkegaard is the renowned defender of Christian piety, a forerunner of existentialism, and a critic of mass politics who challenged us to become "the single individual." But by drawing out important themes bequeathed them by their shared predecessor G. W. F. Hegel, Jamie Aroosi shows how they were engaged in parallel projects of making sense of the modern, "dialectical" self, as it realizes itself through a process of social, economic, political, and religious emancipation. In The Dialectical Self, Aroosi illustrates that what is traditionally viewed as opposition is actually a complementary one-sidedness, born of the fact that Marx and Kierkegaard differently imagined the impediments to the self's appropriation of freedom. Specifically, Kierkegaard's concern with the psychological and spiritual nature of the self reflected his belief that the primary impediments to freedom reside in subjectivity, such as in our willing conformity to social norms. Conversely, Marx's concern with the sociopolitical nature of the self reflected his belief that the primary impediments to freedom reside in the objective world, such as in the exploitation of the economic system. However, according to Aroosi, each thinker represents one half of a larger picture of freedom and selfhood, because the subjective and objective impediments to freedom serve to reinforce one another. By synthesizing the writing of these two diametrically opposed figures, Aroosi demonstrates the importance of envisioning emancipation as a subjective, psychological, and spiritual process as well as an objective, sociopolitical, and economic one. The Dialectical Self attests to the importance and continued relevance of Marx and Kierkegaard for the modern imagination.

The contributions to this anthology discuss these issues, with the goal of combining knowledge and opinions from various disciplines and multiple cultures in order to unfold the complexity and variety of questions that have to be solved, so that public spaces can be seen as environments of intercultural recognition. Book by Gianluca Boschi, Me My Self And I Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Me My Self And I books, Me, my Self, and I FIVE STEPS TO BECOMING YOUR real Self: “ THE UNTOLD STORY “ (Mind & Body) Most of us want to understand more about ourselves and who we are in everyday life. The reality in which we live may resemble somebody else’s life and dreams (our First Program), causing us to repeat patterns of our parents and family members, this happens at the cellular level (behavioural cells) and is recorded in the same way as DNA. Through our senses, we are creating an internal picture (the movie of our life) and like a movie it will follow a script which shapes and influences our beliefs and values in all our choices. This book is a five-step Self-realization kit to create a new script in Light of our new choices and evolution, taking us on the road to becoming our real Self! We can reprogram ourselves with repetition in the same way we learn a new skill or sport. Just as our ancestors knew and practiced, this will involve our Mind & Body in connection with the planet and its living things. What affect others affects us as well – we all live in the same fish thank. The last chapter explains numerology and its meaning in our everyday life, because every fruit has its season! All through the book I use simple explanations about my understandings of the process of life to make it easy for you. I hope you will find your Self in this book. My life has been a continuous investigation into the mystery of the human Mind & Body behaviour. I have been using these same five steps in my life, starting from the bottom and heading towards the top. The process continues. God bless you, Gianluca Boschi Dreams are our unconscious Mind (heart) at its very best!

Recognizing Transsexuals

Book by Dr Zowie Davy, Recognizing Transsexuals Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Recognizing Transsexuals books, Recognizing Transsexuals draws on interviews with transsexuals at various stages of transition to offer an original account of transsexual embodiment and bodily aesthetics. Exploring the reasons for which transpeople desire to modify their bodies, it moves away from the focus on gender that characterizes much work on transpeople's embodiment, to investigate the concept of bodily aesthetics. Recent legislation allowing transsexuals to apply for gender recognition provides the context in which transpeople challenge the conventional understandings of what it means to be men and women. The book examines key approaches to recognizing transsexualism from within a variety of fields and considers transsexuals' bodies, body projects and embodiment in relation to personal, political and medico-legal fields. It explores the ways in which transpeople's bodily aesthetics affect social relations - such as sexual relations, acceptance by others and their families - whilst also considering contemporary political trans community organizations and their public representation of trans-bodies. Recognizing Transsexuals is the first sociological examination of how the bodies of transpeople are figured and reconfigured in socio, politico and medico-legal contexts and considers the impact of these shifts, and will be of interest to those with interests in embodiment, the sociology of law, sexology, medical sociology and gender theory.
