Das Fernsehen nimmt darin mit 13 Stunden die meiste Zeit in Anspruch. Unbeachtet der Tatsache, dass das Fernsehen nicht unbedingt bildungsfördernd ist, bietet es interessante Einblicke, wie sich Macht und Politik im und durch dieses kulturelle Medium abzeichnen kann. In den 70er Jahren setzte man sich erstmals, basierend auf den britischen Cultural Studies, näher mit Medienforschung auseinander. Heute gibt es hinreichend Studien zu Analysen der Rezeptionsästhetik des Fernsehens, Zuschauerforschung und Fernsehforschung im Allgemeinen. Im Folgenden soll ein Abriss der Cultural Studies dargestellt werden, aus dem sich nach über 20 Jahren die Media Studies, als einer von vielen Zweigen der Gegenstandsbereiche, entwickelte. Weiter soll ein Überblick über die Fernsehforschung gegeben werden, der im Hinblick auf die Menge an Studien und Methoden keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit erheben kann. Es soll ersichtlich werden, wie sich Cultural Studies auf den Alltag anwenden lassen.
