The Laboratory

Book by Robert Browning, The Laboratory Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Laboratory books, "The Laboratory" is a poem and dramatic monologue. This poem, set in seventeenth century France, is the monologue of a woman speaking to an apothecary as he prepares a poison, which she intends to use to kill her rival in love. It was inspired by the life of Marie Madeleine Marguerite D'Aubray, marquise de Brinvilliers (1630-1676), who poisoned her father and two brothers and planned to poison her husband. Robert Browning (1812-1889) was an English poet and playwright whose mastery of dramatic verse, and in particular the dramatic monologue, made him one of the foremost Victorian poets. His poems are known for their irony, characterization, dark humor, social commentary, historical settings, and challenging vocabulary and syntax. The speakers in his poems are often musicians or painters whose work functions as a metaphor for poetry.

Book by Iniobong Obong, From Paralympics To Olympics Glory Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download From Paralympics To Olympics Glory books, The participants in the unconventional Paralympics at Bethesda did not compete for medals, but for healing. The unlikely hero, the Paralytic man, represents anyone on a journey who seeks to co-author his destiny against all odds. In From Paralympics to Olympics Glory the author Iniobong Obong discusses how the story of a first-century paralytic in John 5 still speaks to us today. It demonstrates how the hand of God can make a way through seemingly insurmountable difficulties. Obong weaves technology, theology and light-hearted narrative into the story of the paralytic at Bethesda. It shows how travellers on the uncertain, treacherous, and despondent road can be inspired to the path of hope, abundant life, peace, liberty, and prosperity that is in Christ Jesus. The book challenges the modern church to bridge scriptural discourse with contemporary human trials and triumphs - to heighten the current spiritual state of the church.

God In An Open Universe

Book by William Hasker, God In An Open Universe Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download God In An Open Universe books, Since its inception, the discussion surrounding Open Theism has been dominated by polemics. On crucial philosophical issues, Openness proponents have largely been devoted to explicating the underlying framework and logical arguments supporting their perspective against competing theological and philosophical perspectives. As a result, very little constructive work has been done on the interconnections between Open Theism and the natural sciences. Given the central place of sciences in today's world, any perspective that hopes to have a broad impact must necessarily address such disciplines in a sustained and constructive manner. To date such engagements from the Openness perspective have been rare. God in an Open Universe addresses this deficiency. This book demonstrates that Open Theism makes a distinctive and highly fruitful contribution to the conversation and constructive work occurring between philosophy, theology, and the sciences. The various essays explore subjects ranging from physics to prayer, from special relativity to divine providence, from metaphysics to evolution, and from space-time to God. All who work at the intersection of theology and the sciences will benefit greatly from these essays that break new ground in this important conversation.

American Thought

Book by Morris Raphael Cohen, American Thought Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download American Thought books, What constitutes American thought is obviously tooelusive to be encompassed by any one writer or groupof writers. Th e best that any attempt at intellectual historycan achieve is to indicate some of its traces in writtenrecords. This volume represents the eff orts of oneof America's leading philosophers to do just that. He isuniquely qualifi ed to do so, as his contemporary SidneyHook well understood. As Cohen noted, most of what people say and writeis dominated by linguistic forms or habits. Thus thedominance of the traditions and habits that make up theEnglish language has been the strongest single infl uence infashioning American thought as very largely a province ofBritish thought--despite the Declaration of Independenceand two wars. Cohen describes how American thoughtdeveloped from its British roots. It deals with refl ectivethought, i.e. with thought that is conscious of its problems,of its methods and of the widest general bearings of theresults obtained so far. Th e diverse subjects discussedrange from religious thinking to the scientifi c, and fromthe legal tradition to literary criticism. Among the important figures Cohen assesses areDewey, Santayana, Holmes, Brandeis, Whitehead, James, and Royce as well as those of men less well-known butsometimes equally infl uential. In its scope and insight, this book takes its own unique and important place inAmerican thought. Morris Raphael Cohen was a memberof the fabled department of philosophyat the City College of New York between1912 and 1938. He wrote numerous booksand articles including A Preface to Logic, ADreamer's Journey, Refl ections of a WonderingJew, and Law and Social Order. Felix S. Cohen, the son of the author, edited this volume. He was a lawyer andscholar known for his work in legal philosophy and Indian lawand policy. He worked in the solicitor's offi ce in the Departmentof the Interior under Franklin D. Roosevelt and is the authorof both The Handbook of Federal Indian Law and Readings inJurisprudence and Legal Philosophy.
