China Japan Relations In The 21st Century

Book by Lam Peng Er, China Japan Relations In The 21st Century Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download China Japan Relations In The 21st Century books, This new collection examines the paradox of Sino-Japanese relations and the rising diplomatic antagonism between both countries despite deepening economic interdependency. Offering a unique perspective on the history of bilateral ties since diplomatic normalization in 1972, it considers the growing interdependency between China and Japan in bilateral trade, investment, tourism and education, as well as the question of nationalism and Sino-Japanese rivalry in multilateral settings such as in ASEAN processes, the Mekong Basin and the South China Sea. Focusing on the power transition in East Asia, the lack of a common enemy in the post-Cold War era, the clash of Chinese and Japanese nationalism, and a lack of trust, shared values and common identity between China and Japan, this collection addresses the origins of a troubled bilateral relationship which could impact on the stability and prosperity of East Asia.

Japan China Relations In The Modern Era

Book by Ryosei Kokubun, Japan China Relations In The Modern Era Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Japan China Relations In The Modern Era books, From before the dawn of recorded history, there has been a rich flow of interaction between Japan and China. Japan has long learned many things from Chinese civilization, and since the modern era China began to learn from Japan. In the twenty-first century, however, China surpassed Japan in terms of GDP in 2010 to become the world’s second largest economy. Amid this rapid rise of China and what has been called a power-shift in Japan–China relations, there are signs that bilateral tensions are rising and that the image each country has of the other is worsening. This volume provides a cogent analysis of the politics of the bilateral relationship in the modern era, explaining the past, present, and future of Japan–China relations during a time of massive political, social, and economic changes. Written by a team of internationally renowned Japanese scholars and based on sources not available in English, this book is essential reading for students and scholars of Japan–China relations, Japanese international relations, and the politics and international relations of East Asia

Japan S Foreign And Security Policy In The Twenty First Century

Book by William Fujii, Japan S Foreign And Security Policy In The Twenty First Century Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Japan S Foreign And Security Policy In The Twenty First Century books, Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Other States, grade: 72% - First Class Honours, University of Greenwich, language: English, abstract: This paper argues that because of the new reality of the twenty-first century where the United States is beginning to decline, China is rising and North Korea has acquired nuclear capabilities, Japan may need to rethink its foreign and security policy which are deeply anchored on its alliance with Washington. In the light of these new challenges, this paper considers potential problems and constrains in Tokyo's current strategy and suggests it may not be in Japan's best interest to continue pursuing them. Finally, alternatives to Japan's security policy are considered and this paper concludes that no single alternative could replace the U.S.-Japan alliance as an effective security policy in the foreseeable future. Rather, all the alternatives pursued together would potentially lead to an efficacious option, consequently providing Japan's foreign policy with greater independence from the United States.

Alliance In Anxiety

Book by Go Ito, Alliance In Anxiety Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Alliance In Anxiety books, This book analyzes the structural dynamics of the Sino-American-Japanese triangular relationship by exploring how the 1971 Nixon-Kissinger announcement to pursue rapprochement with the People's Republic of China (PRC), in the context of the overall detente strategy, fundamentally altered the U.S.-Japanese relationship. It argues that the systematic structure of international relations in East Asia during the detente period was similar in significant ways to today's post-Cold War period. Highlighting the importance of China to U.S. policy options towards East Asia enables us to provide a more informed perspective on future directions of the Sino-U.S.-Japanese triangular relationship in the twenty-first century.
