Childhood Sexuality And Aids Education

Book by Deevia Bhana, Childhood Sexuality And Aids Education Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Childhood Sexuality And Aids Education books, Primary schoolchildren are frequently shielded from education on sexuality and sexually transmitted diseases in an effort to protect their innocence. In countries like South Africa, where AIDS is particularly widespread, it is especially important to address prevention with younger boys and girls as active social agents with the capacity to engage with AIDS as gendered and sexual beings. This volume addresses the question of children’s understanding of AIDS, not simply in terms of their dependence but as active participants in the interpretation of their social worlds. The volume draws on an interview and ethnographic based study of young children in two socially diverse South African primary schools, as well as interviews conducted with teachers and mothers of young children. It shows how adults sustain the production of childhood sexual innocence, and the importance of scaling up programs in AIDS intervention, gender and sexuality. It makes significant contributions to the global debate around childhood sexualities, gender and AIDS education.

Gender And Childhood Sexuality In Primary School

Book by Deevia Bhana, Gender And Childhood Sexuality In Primary School Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gender And Childhood Sexuality In Primary School books, This book is an ethnography of teachers and children in grades 1 and 2, and presents arguments about why we should take gender and childhood sexuality seriously in the early years of South African primary schooling. Taking issue with dominant discourses which assumes children’s lack of agency, the book questions the epistemological foundations of childhood discourses that produce innocence. It examines the paradox between teachers’ dominant narratives of childhood innocence and children’s own conceptualisation of gender and sexuality inside the classroom, with peers, in heterosexual games, in the playground and through boyfriend-girlfriend relationships. It examines the nuances and finely situated experiences which draw attention to hegemonic masculinity and femininity where boys and girls challenge and contest relations of power. The book focuses on the early makings of gender and sexual harassment and shows how violent gender relations are manifest even amongst very young boys and girls. Attention is given to the interconnections with race, class, structural inequalities, as well as the actions of boys and girls as navigate gender and sexuality at school. The book argues that the early years of primary schooling are a key site for the production and reproduction of gender and sexuality. Gender reform strategies are vital in this sector of schooling.

Gay Men And Childhood Sexual Trauma

Book by James Cassese, Gay Men And Childhood Sexual Trauma Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gay Men And Childhood Sexual Trauma books, Learn powerful techniques for healing the scars of early sexual abuse in gay men! The first book of its kind, Gay Men and Childhood Sexual Trauma: Integrating the Shattered Self addresses the specific therapeutic needs of gay men in recovery. All too often, gay men hide their childhood memories of being sexually victimized, because of fear, shame, and the stigma of stereotypes which equate homosexuality with child abuse. Some gay men may view these histories as “rites of passage” and dismiss other perspectives as betrayals of their community or inadvertant support for the anti-gay agenda of the religious right. Certain therapists and so-called support groups ridicule them as hysterics with false memories. Groups like the North American Man-Boy Love Association or the Rene Guyon Society dismiss the source of their anguish as wishful thinking or a healthy, consensual intergenerational romance. Finally here is a book that addresses the unique emotional and psychological needs of gay male survivors of sexual abuse. Gay Men and Childhood Sexual Trauma offers new hope by separating the crime of pedophilia from the consensual intimacy of an adult male same-sex relationship. It provides specific guidance for therapists working with gay men either in individual or group therapy settings, and offers practical treatment suggestions as well as moving insights into the painful conflicts gay men may have in accepting their own sexuality and revealing their status as child survivor of an adult sexual predator. Gay Men and Childhood Sexual Trauma discusses practical ways to help the survivor heal, including: adopting eye movement desensitization and reprocessing techniques to treat traumatized gay men helping gay men to break the old arousal patterns associated with their abusers handling survivors’formidable issues of trust, addictions, depression, and low self-esteem leading survivor groups of mixed sexual orientation discerning the special meaning of HIV to traumatized gay men respecting cross-cultural differences in treating the gay male sexual trauma survivor finding new directions for research This powerful volume offers sufficient technical detail to be useful for the therapist working with gay men, yet it is written with enough clarity and compassion to be used as bibliotherapy for men just coming out as gay, as survivor, or as both. Gay Men and Childhood Sexual Trauma is an essential resource for mental health professionals, as well as for gay men who have themselves survived sexual abuse or who love someone who did.

The Impact Of Hiv Aids On Education Worldwide

Book by Ryan N. Glover, The Impact Of Hiv Aids On Education Worldwide Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Impact Of Hiv Aids On Education Worldwide books, This volume of the "International Perspectives on Education and Society" series examines the relationship between HIV/AIDS and education worldwide. Much of the mystery surrounding HIV/AIDS and education lies in the fact that many factors contextualize their intersection. Many of the children who are at risk of not finishing school or have never had the chance to attend school live day-to-day in communities with high HIV/AIDS infection rates. To exacerbate the problem, in some countries the highest HIV/AIDS infection rates are in marginalized and extremely poor communities while in others it is within the most affluent communities. This volume examines how education supports, combats or reacts to HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and impact worldwide as well as its impact on education systems and teaching forces. Given the context and prevalence of HIV/AIDS worldwide, this volume presents information, policy case studies, and empirical research for use by educators, policymakers, and organizations about the relationship between HIV/AIDS and education, including how HIV/AIDS has impacted education systems and the potential impact education has on HIV/AIDS.
