Book by Herbert Adams Gibbons, An Introduction To World Politics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download An Introduction To World Politics books, Originally published in 1922, An Introduction to World Politics, was published at a particularly interesting time in international relations, just a few short years after the first world war. With this in mind, Gibbons has approached this text as a general introduction to world politics, both examining causes of recent events in his lifetime as well as exploring what he refers to as ‘the beginning’ of World Politics. This study delves into various aspects of world politics throughout history including the colonialism of the British and the French and several wars and treaties with analysis on how this impacted on relations between nations. This title will be of interest to students of Political History and International Relations.

Inventing The English Massacre

Book by Alison Games, Inventing The English Massacre Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Inventing The English Massacre books, My Lai, Wounded Knee, Sandy Hook: the place names evoke grief and horror, each the site of a massacre. Massacres-the mass slaughter of people-might seem as old as time, but the word itself is not. It worked its way into the English language in the late sixteenth century, and ultimately came to signify a specific type of death, one characterized by cruelty, intimacy, and treachery. How that happened is the story of yet another place, Amboyna, an island in the Indonesian archipelago where English and Dutch merchants fought over the spice trade. There a conspiracy trial featuring English, Japanese, and Indo-Portuguese plotters took place in 1623 and led to the beheading of more than a dozen men in a public execution. Inventing the English Massacre shows how the English East India Company transformed that conspiracy into a massacre through printed works, both books and images, which ensured the story's tenacity over four centuries. By the eighteenth century, the story emerged as a familiar and shared cultural touchstone and a term that needed no further explanation. By the nineteenth century, the Amboyna Massacre became the linchpin of the British empire, an event that historians argued well into the twentieth century had changed the course of history and explained why the British had a stronghold in India. The broad familiarity with the incident and the Amboyna Massacre's position as an early and formative violent event turned the episode into the first English massacre. Drawing on archival documents in Dutch, French, and English, Alison Games masterfully recovers the history, ramifications, and afterlives of this event, which shaped the meaning of subsequent acts of violence and made intimacy, treachery, and cruelty indelibly connected with massacres.

King William's war (1690-7), Wars: 169o--as it was called, raged along the entire frontier I73' from Maine to the Hudson. Indians destroyed townships within 25 miles of Boston. So serious was the danger that a joint conference of the colonies was, for the first time, called at New York to concert measures of defence. Acadia was captured but restored at Ryswick (1697). Five years later Queen Anne's war broke out. New Hampshire and Massachusetts were the objects of fierce and repeated attacks. The sack of Deerfield (1711) by a war party of savages under French command and the ferocious outrages which followed exasperated the colonists. Port Royal in 1710 fell to a strong force of colonial and British troops; and with it Acadia passed finally into English hands. At Utrecht, The peace of Newfoundland, though under conditions which Utrecht, 1713. are still a source of grievance to the inhabitants, and Hudson, s Bay, were definitely declared to be British possessions. The province of New York thus extended its boundary to Lake Ontario, and vague rights over an enormous area were acquired. But the Treaty of Utrecht did not determine boundaries. The "ancient limits" of Acadia meant wholly different things in Boston and in Montreal. The loss of this territory rankled deeply. Whilst England neglected its new conquest, France bent all her efforts to retain the allegiance of its inhabitants. Louisbourg, in Cape Breton, was built (1716) to replace Port Royal, and...
